Elipse Gastric Balloon (Allurion Gastric Balloon) is the world’s first swallowable gastric balloon that does not require endoscopy and anesthesia. It has the same effect and mechanism as other gastric balloons.
The first gastric balloons were used for weight loss in the 1980s. Endoscopic gastric balloons require anesthesia and endoscopy to place in the stomach, inflate and remove at the end of the treatment. The Elipse gastric balloon was developed in the 2010s and with this advantage it has become the most widely used gastric balloon in the world.
Gastric balloons occupy space in the stomach, creating a feeling of constant fullness. It also slows down the passage of nutrients effecting weight lose process. It is the most commonly used option in non-surgical obesity treatment and weight loss methods. Allurion Elipse gastric balloon is widely used due to its advantages.
The balloon compressed into the capsule is swallowed with the help of water. The capsule is large enough to be swallowed.
After checking the location of the capsule with xray, the balloon is inflated with water through a thin flexible tube.
At the end of 16 weeks, the valve in the balloon opens and the balloon deflates. It is passes out naturally through the intestines.
Elipse Swallowable Gastric balloon is available in capsule form and compressed in size that can be swallowed. It has been shrunk as much as possible to facilitate swallowing. Because of this feature, it is also called the gastric balloon pill. Since its material is thin and polyurethane and produced with the latest technology, it also causes less side effects than classical gastric balloons, since it is not rough. Being thin does not affect its strength due to material properties. Like other gastric balloons, it is resistant to stomach acid for a long time. Thanks to these advantages, it provides a more comfortable process for people who want to lose weight. It is also effective in easily expelling the Allurion Gastric balloon naturally at the end of the process.
The swallowable gastric balloon stays in the stomach for a period of 4 months, then it deflates and is thrown out. During this time, you can lose about 10-15% of your weight. According to studies, most of the weight lost in the stomach balloon method is in the first 4 months. The effect in the next process is much less. However, the Allurion Weight Loss Program is a 6-month process and continues after the balloon is expelled from the body.
With the Allurion Smart Scale, Allurion Smart Watch and Allurion Mobile Application provided with the Allurion Weight Loss Program, people are followed online with the support of a dietitian. Thus, it is aimed to prevent weight gain again by preserving the nutritional habits and lifestyle that people have acquired thanks to the swallowable gastric balloon. The results show that people maintain 95% of the weight lost within 1 year after the start of the program.

You can check our page we have prepared on this subject and our daily applications on our instagram account.
Allurion has chosen Op.Dr.Mehtap ERTÜRK clinic as the best clinic of Turkey in 2022-2023, Allurion Center of Excellence.
More than 120,000 ballon placed worldwide.
Loss of 10-15% of your body weight in just 16 weeks
The balloon compressed into the capsule is swallowed with the help of water. The capsule is large enough to be swallowed.
The placement of the Allurion Elipse Gastric Balloon takes approximately 15 minutes. The balloon, which is compressed in the form of a swallowable capsule, and the thin flexible rope (catheter) attached to the balloon, are swallowed with the help of water.
One of the biggest concerns of our patients is the fear of not being able to swallow the capsule. However, all of our patients have swallowed the capsule easily in all our applications up to now. Still, there is a very thin guide device used by the doctor just in case. In such a case, the swallowing process is completed with the help of this guide.
Before filling check it is in proper place
After the capsule is swallowed, the position of the capsule is checked in the stomach with a fluoroscopy (moving x-ray) device. Thanks to the fluoroscopy device, the patient himself can see the capsule in his stomach. After confirming the capsule position is proper, it is inflated by transferring water into the balloon with the help of the thread (tube) remaining outside. After it is filled with 550ml water, it is checked again with the fluoroscope device, and the remaining catheter is pulled out by the doctor and the procedure is completed.
After checking the location of the balloon with xray, the balloon is inflated with water through a thin flexible tube.
The Allurion Elipse Swallowable Gastric Balloon does not need to be removed. At the end of 4 months, the water in the balloon is emptied by the self-melting valve, and the deflated balloon is passes out of the intestines. Here, one of the most common questions from our patients is whether it will cause obstruction in the intestines during expulsion. This is very unlikely as the balloon is very thin and inherently smooth. It has not been encountered in our clinic so far.
Have you tried all diet programs but were unsuccessful? Try the Allurion balloon. Most of those who wear Allurion Elipse gastric balloon to lose weight have a history of not losing weight with diet and exercise.

Nausea and vomiting, which are the most common complications in the first 3 days of gastric balloon applications, are less common due to the structure of the elliptical gastric balloon.
The capsule, which is large enough to be swallowed, is swallowed with water. One of the concerns of our patients is the inability to swallow the capsule. However, we would like to point out that this situation is rarely encountered.
Allurion Gastric Balloon can be applied to people over the age of 18 with a body mass index of 27 and above.
It is one of the preferred methods in obesity patients who are inconvenient to undergo surgery due to health problems.
Since the Allurion swallowable gastric balloon does not require endoscopy and therefore anesthesia, it is the most ideal weight loss method for people who are inconvenient to take anesthesia.
However, balloons cannot be applied to those who are pregnant.
Not suitable for people who consume excessive alcohol.
It is decided by the doctor whether it will be applied to people with existing stomach problems in the past.
Since anesthesia and endoscopy are not required during the application, it can be easily applied to people who are inconvenient to receive anesthesia.
During the application, the person is completely conscious.
Since the return to normal life is much shorter after the application, patients do not need to spend much time for the procedure.
Since it does not need to be removed, it is not necessary for a second time in anesthesia, and one of the biggest advantages is that patients only need to be in the clinical setting once. The comprehensive program to be implemented afterwards can be followed online. If our practical patients want to visit us voluntarily, we are always welcome.
The biggest advantage of the Allurion Gastric Balloon is that it is placed by swallowing with water. For this reason, it is also called the gastric balloon pill.
Gastric balloon pill does not require surgical methods, anesthesia and endoscopy. Thus, it is the most ideal method for patients who prevent or refrain from taking anesthesia. It eliminates the negativities that may occur with anesthesia. Being awake and conscious during the application also minimizes the stress that can be experienced.
The swallowable gastric balloon application is completed in about 15 minutes. One of its advantages is that it is in such a short time.
Being in contact with the person during the application and being able to see the whole process provides a good start to the weight loss journey in patients.
Side effects that may occur after the application are minimal. Elipse gastric balloon moves easily in the stomach due to its thin structure and smooth surface. In this way, complications after inflation and the rate of removal of the balloon in the early period are much less compared to classical endoscopic gastric balloons. While this rate is 10% in endoscopic gastric balloons, it is around 1% in elipse swallowable gastric balloon.
There is no need to remove the Elipse Gastric Balloon. The balloon empities after 16 weeks and is expelled from the body through the toilet. At the end of the program, patients do not need to come back to the clinic or doctor again, as with other endoscopic balloons. This gives the patient an advantage in terms of the cost of the procedure. Especially our patients who come from abroad and from a far distance do not need to come again.
Patient follow-up efficiency is high. Allurion Smart Scale, Allurion Smart Watch and Allurion Mobile Application, which are given to our patients. The Allurion Weight Loss Program, provide great advantages for our patients to follow up regularly, maintain their lifestyle and healthy eating methods, and share this data online with our dietician and progress in a controlled manner.
How much weight will I lose is one of the most frequently asked questions where you can find on this section about the swallowable gastric balloon.
As long as the recommendations of the doctor and dietitian are followed, 10-15% of the body weight can be lost in approximately 4 months. In the following process, weight loss can be continued with the keeping of the nutritional habits gained.
Up to 25 kilos can be lost on average with a swallowable gastric balloon.
Many people resume their normal lives a day or two after a swallowable gastric balloon is placed in the stomach. However, sometimes complaints such as nausea, stomach cramps or vomiting may last for a long time. If such a situation occurs, your doctor will prescribe medication for you to get over it easily.
The mechanism of gastric balloons is exactly the same. By taking up space in the stomach and reducing its volume, it aims to make the person feel full and lose weight by consuming less food. The differences between gastric balloons mainly depend on the application and the duration of stay in the stomach.
Endoscopic gastric balloons, as the name suggests, are placed in the stomach through endoscopy and therefore anesthesia. The swallowable gastric balloon is applied by inserting the compressed capsule into the stomach by swallowing it with water and inflating it with the catheter to which it is attached. Anesthesia and endoscopy are not required.
At the end of the application period, endoscopic gastric balloons are removed using endoscopy and anesthesia. The swallowable gastric balloon deflates thanks to its special valve and is eliminated from the intestines naturally.
Allurion Swallowable Gastric Balloon is the first and only gastric balloon in the world that does not require surgery, endoscopy or anesthesia for placement and removal. Allurion Balloon is swallowed in the form of a capsule during a 15-minute insertion, which means less time away from work and daily life for our patients with balloon application in a shorter time.
Designed to be naturally eliminated from the body in approximately 16 weeks, this technology of the Allurion Swallowable Gastric Balloon makes it a more effective option than 6-month endoscopic balloons, where 80% of weight loss is achieved within the first 3 months. It maximizes weight loss while minimizing the time spent with the balloon in the body. (ref 1).
Allurion Balloon is a safer option with fewer side effects. It has a 10-fold lower overall serious adverse event rate compared to other liquid-filled balloons and a significantly lower intolerance rate compared to 12-month endoscopic balloons (14.4% vs 1-3%) (ref 2.3) (ref 4- 10).
Made from vegan polyurethane, which is a much thinner and more flexible material than the silicone material in endoscopic balloons, Allurion Balloon stretches and adapts as your stomach moves, providing a full and comfortable fit.

Swallowable gastric balloon Allurion is the first and only swallowable balloon in the world. The balloon capsule, which has been developed and continues to be developed for many years, is large enough to be swallowed. Currently, the 4th generation Allurion swallowable gastric balloon capsule has become even smaller and can be easily swallowed with water.
There may be concerns that difficulty may be encountered while swallowing the balloon capsule. However, 99.99% of our patients can swallow the balloon.
However, in case of difficulty in swallowing, a guide wire called “stylet” is passed through the catheter attached to the capsule, and the catheter is hardened by the specialist doctor, making it easier to swallow by pushing it. Although this method is used very rarely, it requires experience.
Combining a swallowable gastric balloon and a lifestyle change plan that supports you in every aspect, the Allurion Program helps you lose approximately 2.5 times more weight than a lifestyle change program alone, according to an independent study.
According to another study, three-quarters of respondents who tried to lose weight within a year through calorie-controlled or restrictive diets (72%), exercise programs or courses (22%), and medication treatments (12%) lost at least 5% of their body weight. It did not achieve clinically significant weight loss values determined as .
The findings show that these methods alone are not sufficient.

The most distinctive feature of the swallowable gastric balloon is that it is made of thin material and thus can be compressed into a capsule. For this reason, our patients may think that it may explode in the stomach. The material of the balloon is produced with high technology and is resistant to pressure and factors in the stomach. To demonstrate this situation, a video was shot by our teacher and uploaded to his Instagram account. You can watch the video from this link.
There is no risk of explosion but of leakage, although it is very unlikely. It is excreted naturally. If it leaks prematurely and is thrown away, it will be reapplied under warranty. For this reason, it is important to choose authorized clinics for Allurion swallowable gastric balloon application. Op.Dr. Mehtap ERTÜRK clinic has been selected as the best and most competent clinic in Turkey as Allurion Center Of Excellence.

This program of care and support alongside the Allurion's Elipse Balloon is key to achieving your long-term goals.
The weeks before your balloon placement are a great time to
start making changes to the way you eat to ensure you are
ready to work with the balloon. This includes starting to eat
more mindfully:
► Plan ahead with set times for eating
as well as planned meal and snack choices.
► Try eating sitting down and focused on your food.
► Eat at a slow pace and chewing well.
► Separate your eating and drinking with
just small sips before and after the meal.
► Stop as soon as you start to feel full.
If you have a smart phone, download the Allurion App. This will sync to the Allurion Connected Scale and Allurion Health Tracker that you’ll be given at the clinic to monitor your progress.
Under the guidance of your physician, start taking your antacid medications two weeks before placement and take anti-sickness medicine as prescribed by your clinic; usually the night before and morning of placement. Your clinic will provide you with these.
Make sure you are well-hydrated in the 24-48 hours before your balloon placement by increasing your overall fluid intake, aiming to drink at least 2 liters of fluid spread out through the day.
For around 10 to 12 hours before your balloon placement, you will be required to limit your intake to only clear liquids. You will be asked to stop liquids 2 hours before the placement.
It is important that you don’t eat anything the morning of your placement, but you can continue to drink water. Tea with one or two teaspoons of honey is fine too. Stay well-hydrated until about 2 hours before placement. Avoid wearing a necklace or using lipsticks or lip balm on the day of placement as necklaces may affect imaging and lipstick can stick to the capsule.
You will swallow your balloon capsule, attached to a thin tube, with a glass of water and your physician will use an X-ray to check its positioning before filling it with water. Even if you are unable to swallow, the physician can use a thin wire inside the tube to assist you, and with that nearly all patients are able to swallow the capsule.
Once the balloon is in place and filled with water, your physician will use an X-ray to confirm it's fully filled in the stomach. Then you should take your first weight on the connected scale and share it with your dietitian by email using the share feature on the app.
► Stick to clear fluids for the first 24 hours while your nausea is at its highest point. You may also feel some stomach cramping. Water (noncarbonated), squash, hot broth/consommé, herbal and decaf tea, flat isotonic sports drinks, and coconut water are all good choices.
► Avoid milk and caffeine on the first day.
► Start small and build up. Make sure you take small sips every few minutes, even if you can only take a tablespoon at a time. It’s important to keep sipping and build up.
► If you are vomiting, try using rehydration solutions and/or isotonic sports drinks as these can help top up your electrolytes and blood glucose as well as help your hydration.
► Try fluids at room temperature or slightly warm if you are experiencing stomach cramps.
► Slowly, if possible, build up to 2 liters a day over the course of the first week, especially if the weather is warm or you live in a region with a warmer climate. This may sometimes take longer than a week.
After the first day, if the nausea and vomiting has subsided, you can slowly start to build in thicker fluids such as shakes, soup and yogurt. Keep it fairly smooth and liquid initially and, if tolerated, gradually build up. If the change in texture causes your symptoms to get worse, switch back to clear fluids for 24 hours to allow it to settle and then try again.
Sample meal plan:
BREAKFAST | 125 ml (1/2 cup) milk or protein shake |
MID-MORNING | 125 ml (1/2 cup) plain yogurt / high-protein yogurt |
LUNCH | 2 tbsp blended chicken / meat / fish or 2 tbsp vegetable puree or blended high-protein soup |
MID-AFTERNOON | ½ cup homogenized fruit or high-protein yogurt / protein shake |
EVENING MEAL | 2 tbsp blended fish / chicken / meat |
Good protein shakes should contain around 15 to 20 g of protein with
a maximum of 200 calories and 10 g of sugars. You can also get an unflavored
protein powder to add to your homemade soups or fluids.
Other suggestions:
► Fat-free dairy (milk, yogurt), without chunks of fruits
► Sugar-free gelatin/jelly and custard (low-fat milk)
► Herbal, green tea, chamomile, anise without sugar (you can add fat‑free milk)
► Low-fat spreadable cheese or cottage cheese
► Soups (mixed in the blender). You can add any vegetable, potato, meat, chicken, lentils, etc.
► Low-fat protein shakes (vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry)
► Oatmeal cooked with skimmed milk
If you tolerate the thick liquids and puree, you can start to try soft foods. Remember to keep portion sizes very small and to take small mouthfuls, taking your time chewing each mouthful. Again, if you find that nausea and vomiting get worse with soft foods, revert to liquids for 24 hours before trying again.
► A soft diet is made up of foods that are soft and easy to chew and swallow. These foods may be chopped, ground, mashed, pureed, and moist.
► Use measuring cups to help monitor your portion sizes.
► Chew food thoroughly, eat very slowly, and stop eating or rinking
at the first sign of fullness.
Sample meal plan:
BREAKFAST | 125 ml (1/2 cup) low-fat milk + 15 g low-sugar cereal / porridge / 2 dry biscuits |
MID-MORNING | Fruit puree |
LUNCH | Scrambled eggs (x1-2) + 2 tbsp vegetable puree |
MID-AFTERNOON | 125 ml (1/2 cup) plain yogurt and handful of berries |
EVENING MEAL | 2 tbsp low-fat cheese + 2 tbsp mashed potato |
► Total quantity of oil in a day should not exceed 20 grams.
► At this stage diets may vary and your nutritionist will guide you during this phase.
Most people are back on usual solid meals after 5-7 days; however, this may sometimes take up to 2 weeks. If you just get abdominal cramping without nausea or vomiting, you may benefit from getting back to a solid or semi‑solid diet a little earlier as often these are hunger pangs that can be settled by having more solids.
Once back on solids, try to get into a rhythm of 3 meals a day and allow your body and balloon to determine whether any additional planned snacks are needed. However, it is generally advisable to add small healthy snacks to maintain a steady glucose level. Getting into a stable routine is key to keeping these changes long term.
Make sure you work with your coaching team to help you find the right routine for you.
► It may help to avoid leafy vegetables for the first month.
► Maintain adequate hydration.
► Eat at a slow pace and chew each mouthful well. Take a break between each mouthful so you can assess for any tightness in your chest (which indicates you are getting full).
► Don’t drink with meals. Sip fluids before and after.
► Move to 3 balanced meals per day with 2 small snacks.
► Consider taking an A-Z multivitamin and mineral supplement during the Allurion programme to guard against nutritional deficiencies, especially if and where your diet is restricted.
► Stop eating as soon as you start to notice any acid reflux (heartburn), wind, bloating, or belching. Do not smoke before eating.
► Avoid drinks with carbonation, strongly caffeinated drinks, or those high in calories—including alcohol in excess.
► Do not have supper too late in the evening. Avoid lying down shortly after eating and wait at least two to three hours before going to bed.
► Some discomfort may occur when trying to sleep or lying on your side. This can be expected and can be eased by propping yourself up with pillows.
► Sleeping on the left side is preferable and reduces balloon symptoms at night.
► Make sure you work towards being active at least 30 minutes a day. Talk to your coach to find a type of activity that works for you and your lifestyle.
► Send your weight update to your coaching team at least once per week and make sure you have regular follow-ups and support throughout the journey. This is included in your package and is essential to your success.
► Switch to a small plate to assist with portion control. A healthy portion plate can help (see below).
A high-protein intake during weight loss can help in preserving our lean body mass—that is our muscle and bones, which supports our metabolism and health.
Your care team will help you determine the right level of protein intake for you, which will be between 1 and 1.5 g per kg of ideal body weight, depending on your health background, current lifestyle, and exercise levels. Your nutritionist can help you do this calculation.
Some people start to notice they adapt to the balloon’s presence after the first 2-3 months and the balloon effects are not so noticeable. Like any weight-loss journey, weight loss with Allurion can also start to plateau after the initial months. If your weight loss has stalled, there may be combination therapies you could consider. These include medications, fiber supplements, or a more structured diet (such as very low-calorie ketogenic diet or intermittent fasting) and exercise regimens. Discuss the options appropriate for you with your coaching team.
The balloon deflates and passes through your system at approximately 16 weeks. However, the time of passage can vary between 3 months to beyond 5 months. You may experience some stomach cramps and diarrhoea when this happens. Switching back to a soft diet for a week from week 15 on may help to reduce these side effects. Most patients may not see the empty balloon pass when it is excreted. A very small percentage of patients may vomit the empty balloon at the end of its residency. Although this can be startling to you, no adverse events have been reported associated with this method of expelling the balloon. If this occurs, it does not need any further intervention or monitoring afterwards.
It is normal to feel anxious or nervous about continuing your success once the balloon has passed. Talk to your coach and make sure you have a plan to stick to for the next few weeks until you feel more confident. The key is simply continuing the structure and routine that you have perfected over the past few months in order to maintain your new habits and weight. This means continuing with the same food choices, meal volumes, and eating frequency as well as your new exercise routine. This will place you in the best position to continue your success and sustain your weight loss. Your coaching team will be by your side to guide you through this transition.
Have peace of mind and satisfaction with the Allurion Program.

Swallowable or endoscopic gastric balloon application, since the balloon placed in the stomach cannot be digested and excreted by the stomach, complaints such as nausea, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting and retching occur for the first week of adaptation. These complaints are alleviated or resolved with the necessary drugs. However, this depends on the pain threshold of the person.

Although the Allurion Elipse Gastric Balloon is a step that starts the weight loss process, the Allurion Slimming Program was created to support you in taking the options that determine your nutrition and lifestyle to a healthier and more beautiful stage. With the Allurion smart scale, smart watch and mobile application, you can constantly monitor your weight loss process and factors. You will be guided correctly by sharing this data with your dietitian and doctor.
The balloon takes up space in the stomach and gives a feeling of fullness. Thus, the amount of food eaten at meals decreases and the patient starts to lose weight.
There is a special diet program in the process of getting used to the balloon for 1 week before and especially after the balloon is placed. Afterwards, you can easily change your eating habits with small goals with the help of the program. At the end of the program, these habits will continue permanently and you will continue to maintain your weight.
Some patients may experience nausea, abdominal cramps and, rarely, vomiting. Often, these symptoms can be controlled with commonly used medications.
Almost all of the patients can swallow without problem.
If you still have trouble swallowing the capsule, your doctor may use the stylet for guiding capsule.
A guide wire (stylet) is ready to use. No endoscopy or anesthesia is required for this.
Unfortunately, the elipse gastric balloon is used only in one application, like other gastric balloons.
The swallowable gastric balloon is for single use only. In case of removal, no refund can be made.
In addition, in normal use, it extinguishes spontaneously within 4 months and comes out with defecation. Therefore, if it is desired to be removed early, endoscopy and anesthesia in a medical center are required. In such a case, it also creates an extra cost for the patient.
The capsule containing the balloon (gastric balloon pill) is swallowed with the help of water, together with a thin filling catheter. After confirming that the capsule is in your stomach with the fluoroscope x-ray device, the balloon is filled with 550 ml of water through the thin filling catheter. A second X-ray is taken to ensure that the balloon is properly filled in the stomach. The insertion process is performed in 15 minutes without endoscopy and anesthesia, which does not require hospitalization.
Elipse gastric balloon prices depend on the exchange rate. Therefore, please contact us for current prices.
